Open Science

The open science model is currently highly approved and recommended around the world by a number of research institutions. It concerns openness and sharing broadly understood science not only within the scientific community but also with the entire society, which somehow supports this science. The principles of open science have been implemented by many agencies financing scientific research around the world, including: European Commission and National Science Center. They are also promoted by international organizations shaping science policy, e.g. UNESCO and Science Europe.

Currently, in accordance with the recommendations of the Ministry of Education and Science, universities and research units in Poland should adopt institutional openness policies, i.e. guidelines for authors regarding publishing in open access and sharing research data in open repositories.

Data Management Plan (DMP) a document specifying how research data is to be collected, processed, analyzed, described, stored, secured and published during the research project/process and after its completion. The DMP is an integral part of the research plan.

Research Data (RD) everything that has been produced or produced as part of research, including: numerical data, text documents, notes, audio and video recordings, photographs, laboratory protocols, methodological descriptions. Data can be raw, obtained directly as a result of using a research tool, or processed, i.e. already processed.

Open Research Data (ORD) – data to which everyone has access. They can be reused, modified, redistributed and shared in compliance with the law.
Important tips when completing your Data Management Plan

    The Data Management Plan specifies:
    - what data will be generated or collected (file format, volume);
    - how the data will be described (methodology, standards, metadata);
    - ethical and legal issues of data (copyright, open licenses );
    - how the data will be shared (how, when and with whom);
    - which data will be stored.
    research data should be deposited in repositories;
    NCN recommends storing data for 10 years;
    The plan may change during the implementation of research projects/processes.
FAIR date research data that has been described, stored and published in accordance with an international standard. Should be:

    Findable - easy to search;
    Accessible - available, e.g. in a data repository;
    Interoperable - described in an appropriate standard and correct methodology;
    Reusable - made available for repeated use under an appropriate license.
