In 1954 employed in the Institute of Systematic Zoology of Polish Academy of Sciences (then Cracow Branch of the Zoological Institute in Warsaw). Retired in 2003. 1988-1997 Director of the Institute.

Recipient of many prizes and awards, among others of Polish State Award, Secretary of Polish Academy of Sciences Award (twice), Ignaz Schiffermüller Medaille. Member of the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Active in entomology, especially in the systematics of Lepidoptera, chiefly Tortricidae.
